Proper Brush Storage: Get Rid of That Coffee Can!

Your paintbrushes are probably very near and dear to your heart—and art! Chances are, though, that you are not storing them properly, and are damaging the brushes.
In this video, Scott Maier is joined by Heather Goldstein, Director of New Product Development at Jerry’s Artarama, who tells him about a product designed for proper brush storage.
See It in Action
Stop using an empty coffee can to store your brushes. When you drop your paintbrush into the can or cup brush to let it dry, solvent and water seeps down into the brush’s ferrule, rusting the metal, damaging the wood, and breaking down the glue.

This Mezzo Brush Rack from Jerry’s Artarama is so much better for your brushes! It allows you to store your brushes upright, so you can easily identify the brushes and can grab to right filbert when you need it, but it also has clever, extra slots on the side.

These side slots have a high-quality foam that can grip any size brush and hold it, so you can safely hang your brushes upside down to drip dry. The bottom tier of the brush rack is acrylic, so water or paint that drips on it won’t damage it.

Does it have the, um, personality of your beloved old coffee can? Maybe not. But it will certainly keep your brushes in better condition, making them last longer.
